What is an American Dream?
An American Dream is having the opportunity to prosper and have great success. It is being able to achieve higher class through hard work and determination. The American Dream is having the ability to be happy, if one works hard enough for that happiness.
Gatsbys American Dream
Gatsby's American Dream is was actually the complete opposite of what the American Dream really is. He dropped out, and chose the criminal path to achieve his fortune. While others would gain their American Dream by hard work and dedication, he cheated his way to the top. To him, Daisy was his American Dream. She could do not wrong in his eyes.

- From North Dakota.
- Born as James Gatz, but then changed his name later.
- He was not born into his wealth, he had to work to make his money as a bootlegger.
- Jay illegally sold alcohol to make his money.
